Construction works on a 16-kilometre section of Sofia's ring road will begin in the summer and are scheduled for completion by the end of next year, the country's Road Infrastructure Agency said.
On Monday the agency signed with local consortium HPVS-SST a 150 million lev ($105 million/77 million euro) contract for the design and construction of the six-lane section.
The tie-up consists of local companies Hydrostroy, Patni Stroezhi Veliko Tarnovo, Patinzheneringstroy, Patstroy Burgas and Vodstroy98.
Bulgaria has received a grant of 235 million levs under the EU-funded European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for the implementation of the project, the regional development ministry said in a separate press release.
The northern section of the Sofia ring road will connect Trakia, Hemus, Kalotina and Lyulin motorways.
