Bulgarian Minister of Energy Temenuzhka Petkova and Eileen Wilkinson, VP Exploration Middle East & North Africa at Shell International Exploration and Production B.V., signed Tuesday an agreement on exploration and prospecting for oil and natural gas in Block 1-14 Silistar, FOCUS News Agency reported.
The ceremony took place at the Council of Ministers building in the capital Sofia.
It was also attended by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, Deputy Prime Minister for EU Funds and Economic Policies Tomislav Donchev, and others.
“We are making an extremely important step to diversification of natural gas sources through the signing of the agreement on exploration in Silistar,” said Minister Petkova, speaking at the ceremony.
“Today is a very special day for the Bulgarian energy sector. We are making an extremely important step to achieving one of our main priorities in the energy sector – diversification of the sources delivering natural gas. Development of inter-system connectivity between Bulgaria and neighbouring countries along with work related to local [gas] extraction are the steps we should take to achieve the so much desired diversification of sources and routes of natural gas delivery,” the cabinet member commented.
