Bulgarian companies are beginning to develop a copper deposit and build hydro facilities in the Latin American country.
“We are ready to make a fresh start in our economic relations with Cuba that have been suspended in the past years,” said Bulgarian Minister of Economy Bozhidar Lukarski, speaking at his meetings with Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz, Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, and Salvador Pardo Cruz, Cuban Minister of Heavy Industries.
Lukarski paid a visit to the capital Havana, leading a Bulgarian business delegation in the frames of the FIHAV 2015 exhibition of CUBA EXPO, the press centre of the ministry announced.
This was the first visit at a ministerial level as Bulgarian-Cuban economic contacts were suspended for years and after the diplomatic relations between Cuba and the USA were re-established.
Bozhidar Lukarski recalled Bulgaria and Cuba had traditionally friendly relations and lots of Bulgarian specialists had taken part in the building of the Cuban economy.
The 55th anniversary of the establishment of Bulgarian-Cuban diplomatic relations was recently marked.
Minister Lukarski assured the new Bulgarian government did its best for markets to open in third countries outside the EU and Cuba was a preferred partner.
