“Over the past few years village tourism has been reporting a growth in Bulgaria, mostly due to the improvement of the conditions thanks to the OP Rural Development,” Rumen Draganov, Director of the Bulgarian Institute for Analysis and Assessment in Tourism, said speaking for Radio FOCUS.
In his words, the different festivals in the small settlements, as well as their ethnographic activities, are among the major reasons for the upsurge of the local village tourism.
“The Bulgarian village is reviving. It turns out that we have managed to preserve them and we are very rich in such places. This is a resource for opening new jobs, for improvement of the local economies in regions, such as Northwest Bulgaria and the border regions, where the economies find it hard to open jobs,” the expert commented further.
