Tsipras: We must take action on domestic violence

SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Alexis Tsipras expressed his indignation on the fatal shooting of a 43-year-old mother of three by her husband in the city of Larissa, in a post on social media on Tuesday. "It is not enough to grieve and get angry," noted the main opposition party leader and he added that "we ought to act."

The state "must stop treating the departments of domestic violence that we set up in the Hellenic Police as a PR stunt," he added.

Moreover, "these departments should be staffed with specialized experts and thus become a true lifeline, so that the Hellenic Police can fulfill its social role of prevention, not only suppression," Tsipras concluded.
