Trade union Podkrepa called for the immediate resignation of all members of the State Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (SEWRC) and the launch of investigative proceedings against them on suspicions of corruption, following the unexpected hike of 13% of electricity prices effective as of July 1.
The current situation where prices are growing while the country is in an economic crisis and salaries and pensions have been frozen for three years will aggravate to disastrous proportions, state-run Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) quoted a letter from the trade union to prime minister Boiko Borisov and parliament chair Tsetska Tsacheva.
In response, SEWRC head Angel Semerdzhiev said that anyone who disagrees with the commission's decisions is free to contest them before court.
