“It is necessary to minimize the risk for Bulgarian consumers in their relationship with distribution companies,” Minster of Energy Temenuzhka Petkova said at a meeting with representatives of the three electricity distribution companies – Energo-Pro EAD, EVN Bulgaria AD and CEZ Bulgaria EAD, the press centre of the Ministry announced.
During the meeting were discussed possibilities for overcoming problems related to accounting and billing of the electricity consumed.
Minister Petkova was clear that if necessary will be made amendments to the current legislation so that to protect the interests of Bulgarian consumers of electricity.
“Electricity distribution companies (EDCs) should be predictable to the public and to inform it in advance for any taken action. Open and honest dialogue will lead to increased trust in consumers,” the Minister outlined. She proposed similar meetings at expert level between the Ministry of Energy and representatives of the three electricity distribution companies to be carried out regularly in the future. In their turn, representatives of the electricity distribution companies said they will put major problems in their work to the team of the Ministry.
According to Minister Temenuzhka Petkova there must be a vision to improve the general awareness of consumers of electricity. “We have to join efforts and to be open to people to increase their awareness,” she stated. “This can be done through information campaigns, open days and mobile reception rooms of the three EDCs where consumers can discuss specific issues with competent staff of the companies. Checks of the EDCs in terms of compliance with the legislation will continue,” the Minister added.
