The education ministry will be tabling a draft bill in parliament on issues regarding teaching staff

The education ministry will soon be tabling a draft bill in parliament on issues such as industrial PhDs, visiting professors and researchers and sundry issues regarding teaching staff, according to an announcement on Tuesday.

The aim of the bill is to create stronger links between education and the needs of industry, including commercial uses of the results of research carried out for PhD papers and the production of innovative products or services.

The article on visiting academic staff, extended to include visiting researchers, will allow universities to employ new staff with very high qualifications, the ministry said.

Other articles concern the deadline by which teaching staff can apply for long-term leave of absence for family or other reasons (May 31) and a final date for a decision (June 30).
