Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance spokesperson Nassos Iliopoulos, speaking to TV OPEN about the wildfires in Greece on Wednesday, accused the government of "congratulating itself in the midst of the disaster".
Iliopoulos said that "first of all our thoughts are with the people that are battling the blaze and the people that are going through an ordeal and have lost their property. We expect an immediate recording of the damage and to hear the government's support measures".
Among others, Iliopoulos noted that the burnt land in Greece in 2021 had increased by 50 percent in comparison with 2020 and 110 percent compared with 2019, noting that these figures "do not include the two last days wildfires".
He also said that it was obvious that climate change is here and that a large part of the discussion is what we will do to address it.
