Students and professors from Sofia University, Bulgaria's oldest and most prestigious higher education institution, are staging yet another rally today over radical cuts in state funding.
Members of the Bulgarian Parliament announced Friday they will give Sofia University BGN 2 M, which are spared from other activities. This is supposed to cover the University's central heating bills during the winter. However, the protesting staff and students do not consider this kind of help enough, as the series of protests continue.
Bulgaria's university students have been staging protests for nearly a month already as university rectors are pressing demands for at least a partial back off from proposed radical cuts in state funding for higher education.
