Bulgaria's Regional Development Ministry and the capital's municipal authorities will seek to speed up by 15 days the extension of a section on Sofia's ring road due to the upcoming opening of Swedish furniture maker IKEA's flagship outlet in the country.
The acceleration is also necessitated by the construction of a new shopping centre in the area, Regional Development Minister, Rossen Plevneliev, and Sofia's major, Yordanka Fandakova, said on Wednesday, after checking on site the construction of the road stretch linking the Simeonovo and Mladost 4 residential districts.
The road section is scheduled for completion in 2012.
According to Plevneliev, the authorities aim to complete the Ring Road's southern arc and a new road interchange near IKEA's future store by September 15.
The acceleration of the stretch's completion has been requested by the Swedish company, Dnevnik reported.
