Sofia’s Heating Utility Starts Construction of 6.3 Mln Euro Turbine
Thursday, 01 January 1970
Heating utility Toplofikatsia Sofia will build a 12.4 million levs ($8.2 million/6.3 million euro) turbine as part of its modernisation programme, the company said.
The 12 megawatt (MW) turbine will be installed at Toplofikatsia's Sofia Thermal Power Plant (TPP). The project will be carried out by Consortium General Energo. Completion is due by the end of 2014.
Toplofikatsia will use own resources for the project, envisaging replacement of outdated equipment, improving efficiency and reducing technical loss.
This will be the second turbine under Toplofikatsia's 2010-2014 rehabilitation programme. By the end of 2013 Toplofikatsia will put on stream a turbine started in 2011.
Currently the company is working on 21 projects to be supported by EU operational programmes. Toplofikatsia recently received a 21.5 million euro grant from the Kozloduy International Decommissioning Support Fund (KIDSF) to finance six projects for the period 2013-2017. KIDSF was established to cater for the decommissioning of four units of the Kozloduy nuclear power plant and to mitigate the negative consequences of their early closure. Upgrading the technological equipment will result in reducing the consumption of natural gas that comprises 80% of the production costs and will help keep prices unchanged, Tsvetanov added.
