Bulgaria's Metropolitan, the operator of Sofia subway, said on Friday that it has signed a deal worth up to 65.34 million levs ($37.7 million/33.4 million euro) with Russia's Metrovagonmash, envisaging overhaul of up to 12 subway trains. Under the contract, Metrovagonmash will repair two subway trains for 10.7 million levs, and, depending on whether Metropolitan has the necessary financing, up to 10 other trains for an additional 54.64 million levs, Metropolitan said in a notice. The first two trains have to be repaired within one year of the date of the signing of the contract, which according to the notice is December 6.Metrovagonmash submitted the only offer in the public tender for awarding the contract. The tender was suspended several times due to complaints filed by local TUVI&Co, which were later dismissed by the country's competition authority. Metrovagonmash, part of Transmashholding, supplied the trains to Sofia metro under a deal signed in 2013.
