Passenger numbers at Sofia airport totalled 6.962 million in 2018, up by 7.3% year-on-year, according to data from the airport. The airport in the Bulgarian capital handled 22,251 tonnes of cargo in 2018, an increase of 6.6% over the previous year, figures posted on the airport's website show. Landings and takeoffs increased by 5.4% to 60,771.At the end of December the transport ministry extended to February 5 the deadline for submitting offers in its tender for awarding a 35-year concession contract to run the airport. The contract has an estimated value of 3.9 billion euro ($4.5 billion).The concession fee will carry the highest wеight in the procedure for selecting a concessionaire, of 55%. The remaining 45% will depend on the submitted development plan, business plan, financing plan, general strategy, traffic estimates and capital expenditure. The requirements for the potential candidates include having a net asset value of at least 200 million euro throughout the last three years and operating at least one international airport with annual traffic of over 10 million passengers.
