SME Sector Generates 74 billion levs in 2015

The SME sector generated turnover of 74 billion levs in 2015. That's about 61% of the GDP, announced Marietta Zaharieva, head of the Executive Agency for Promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises, at the Economic Forum in Sofia organized by the Business Lady club.
Helping small businesses is a focus of the European programs of the new programming period 2014-2020. Particular attention is paid to start-up initiatives, which are an important factor in the development of new business ideas and economic development overall, she said.
The Ministry of Economy is working on strategies to promote women's entrepreneurship, together with organizations of women entrepreneurs, announced Economy Minister Bozhidar Lukarski at the opening. He urged organizations of women entrepreneurs to participate actively in the development of the strategy in order to become a working mechanism for support. The strategy will define measures to increase the number of women entrepreneurs, training, mentoring, giving voice to the concerns of women entrepreneurs and helping to mitigate them. "Many believe that the business world belongs to men, but I am convinced that without the entrepreneurial and innovative spirit of women the world economy would have been quite poor in terms of ideas and innovation," said Minister Lukarski. He cited data showing that in recent years the number of women entrepreneurs has been rising steadily.
