Schreiber Foods Cleared to Take Over Danone Production Assets in Bulgaria
Monday, 09 December 2013
The Bulgarian competition watchdog said it has cleared U.S. dairy producer Schreiber Foods to acquire control of the production assets of Danone Serdika, the Bulgarian unit of French company Danone.
The deal complies with local anti-trust rules as it will not lead to an increase in either companies’ market share or to an overlap of their businesses, the Commission for the Protection of Competition said.
Schreiber Foods will establish a Bulgarian entity named Schreiber Foods Bulgaria in order to acquire the local assets. The U.S. company will continue to produce Danone-labeled products at the Sofia-based factory and will keep all employees.
The acquisition in Bulgaria is part of a deal with Danone that also covers production capacity of the French company in Portugal and the Czech Republic.
