Railway/Ferry Line To Link Bulgarian, Turkish Ports

A railway-and-ferry link between Bulgarian and Turkish ports has been negotiated during a joint meeting of the governments of the two neighboring Black Sea countries, Bulgaria's transport ministry said.

"The agreement will help strengthen cooperation and the implementation of a number of joint projects aiming to increase the amount of freight passing through the territories of Bulgaria and Turkey," Bulgarian transport minister Ivailo Moskovski was quoted as saying on Tuesday in a government statement.

Under the agreement, Bulgarian and Turkish carriers will be able to establish affiliates and to appoint representatives on the territory of the other country in accordance with the local legislation, the statement read.

"We negotiated more permits for heavy road transport than in the previous year and secured a simplified regime for trains passing before the start of repair works on Istanbul - Edirne railway route," Moskovski added.
