The chairman of Bulgaria's state energy regulator, Evgenia Haritonova, said the losses sustained by the local power distributors are the result of the common EU policy in energy.
Prices in Bulgaria in 2012 were consistent with average EU prices for the respective type of renewable energy sources, so Bulgaria is not to blame for this situation, Haritonova said.
Her comment came in response to claims by one of the power distributors operating in the country, Austria's EVN, that it has accumulated 100 million lev ($65.5 million/51 million euro) in losses so far because the state buys energy generated from renewable sources at preferential prices.
