PM Tsipras: 'We're Working to Bridge Remaining Differences'
Friday, 12 June 2015
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said his government is working to bridge remaining differences with the country’s lenders, following a two-hour meeting with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker in Brussels earlier on Thursday, on the sidelines of the EU-CELAC summit.
"We’re working to achieve a deal which will ensure Greece’s recovery as well as social cohesion and a sustainable debt,” he told journalists.
Exiting the meeting area, Juncker said it was an “important, constructive and friendly discussion.”
Sources with the European Commission said that Juncker explained the Greek premier that the process is still in place with the institutions which will allow the timely achievement of a mutually accepted solution. The same sources added that the two men agreed to remain in contact in the coming days.
Greek government sources said the meeting was held in a very friendly climate. “We are working to bridge the differences on fiscal issues and on [securing] smooth funding, as well as on achieving an agreement which will ensure social cohesion and a sustainable public debt”.
