PM Mitsotakis welcomes MyHealth app as next step in providing fast digital services to citizens

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Tuesday welcomed the MyHealth app as "yet another important step for swift digital services to citizens, in the especially sensitive area of health," during a video conference to present the app.

He said the app was essentially the first step to a personal health file on each patient, through which each individual will gain access to their medical records and health profile.

"In this way, we are strengthening the relationship between the citizen and health services. The informed citizen, the active citizen will have a much greater role to play in the management of their own personal health," Mitsotakis said.

He stressed that all the necessary security measures have been taken, given the sensitive nature of the information, and said the new application will help rationalise pharmaceutical spending and fight overprescribing, sending warnings to the doctors involved and ensuring that the right medication is prescribed at the right cost and for the right patient.

The prime minister noted that this was just a small part of an overall plan for a true overhaul of the national health system, covering the rull range of health services from prevention to patient care after discharge from hospital, in which new technologies will have a pivotal role.

Minister of State and Digital Governance Kyriakos Pierrakakis outlined the system's capabilities and the information it will provide, while Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias said the essence of the app was the effort to make people's daily lives simpler while allowing the government to design better health policies and provide higher quality services.

The MyHealth app will contain records of all prescriptions, diagnostic tests and their results, giving citizens access to both their own medical records and those of their dependents.
