PM Mitsotakis attends online EU leadership meeting on pandemic developments

Management of the coronavirus pandemic and coordination of the EU member states related to it was the focus of an online EU leaders' conference that Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis attended on Tuesday.

The meeting was in preparation of the European Council Summit on February 25 and 26.

Besides Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, other leaders attending were Portugal's prime minister Antonio Costa (whose country is presiding this semester at the Council of the EU), Germany's chancellor Angela Merkel, and Italy's prime minister Mario Draghi.

Mitsotakis referred again to his proposal for a Europe-wide certificate of inoculation for SARS-CoV-2, which will facilitate safe travel once pandemic developments allow full travel again, government sources said.

He also pressed for faster approval of new vaccines by EU agencies, following safety protocols but without bureaucratic delays.
