Maintaining a stable economic and financial framework that is appealing to investors is a major goal of the current Bulgarian government. Thanks to the successful privatisation of the Devnya factory twenty years ago by Solvay and Sisecam, the enterprise is now a global leader in the industry, Minister of Energy Temenuzhka Petkova said at the opening of a new installation at Solvay Sodi EAD in Devnya, according to the press office of the Ministry of Energy. During that period over 1 billion leva was invested in technology upgrade, in the environment and human capital.
The company in Devnya is Solvay's biggest synthetic soda ash production plant in Europe. About 90% of the output is exported, with the main markets being the Balkans, Russia, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, as well as South America, Africa and Asia. The company employs about 600 people. Solvay Sodi accounts for about 1% of the country's total exports.
