Parliamentary Committee to Supervise Energy Regulator

Parliament said it has adopted amendments that allow setting up an ad-hoc committee to supervise the work of the country's energy regulator.

The amendments, proposed by the ruling centre-right party GERB, were approved with 77 MPs voting in favour and 15 against, as two abstained, parliament said in a statement published on its website.

The members of the committee will be selected on a parity basis in order to ensure transparency and public awareness, the statement added.

The State Commission on Energy and Water Regulation has recently come under public criticism in connection with sharp hikes of electricity, fuel and water prices.
