Bulgaria's outsourcing industry employs 40,000 people and their number is expected to reach 60,000 by 2020, President Rosen Plevneliev said at the unveiling of the Third Annual Outsourcing Conference in Sofia on Thursday.
The President said that outsourcing is among the fastest developing industries in Bulgaria and that the sector creates prospects and a new horizon. Bulgaria is the third most preferred outsourcing destination globally and ranks first in Europe. In 2014, the industry's annual turnover grew by 13.7 per cent year-on-year.
"Bulgaria's economy is showing signs of maturity and we are creating conditions to develop the industries of the future," said Plevneliev. However, he noted that the issue of skilled personnel is ever more common for the industries of the future in Bulgaria. "Can education reform itself and adapt in such a way that entrepreneurs have a sense that education is on their side and that it produced the employees that they need," asked the head of state.
Sofia's Mayor Yordanka Fandakova said that 91 per cent of the largest outsourcing companies are headquartered in Sofia.
