NSI: Turnover in Retail Trade Falls 0.5% MoM in April 2017

In April 2017, turnover in retail trade, except for motor vehicles and motorcycles, decreased by 0.5% compared to the previous month, while compared to April 2016 it rose by 2.1%, according to preliminary data, the National Statistics Institute (NSI) said.
Compared to the previous month, turnover grew by 0.5% in ‘Dispensing chemist; retail sale of medical and orthopedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles’ and by 0.4% in ‘Retail sale in non-specialised stores’. More significant decreases were registered in ‘Retail sale of computers, peripheral units and software; telecommunications equipment’, in ‘Retail sale of automotive fuel’ and in retail via mail, phone or Internet, respectively, by 3.1%, 2.6% and 2.5%.
Compared to April 2016, turnover increased more significantly in ‘Dispensing chemist; retail sale of medical and orthopedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles’, by 10.8%, in ‘Retail sale in non-specialised stores’, by 10.5%, and in ‘Retail sale of textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods’, by 10.1%. A decrease was registered in ‘Retail sale of automotive fuel’, by 15.4%, and in retail via mail, phone or Internet, by 0.7%.
