Bulgaria's Northwestern region ranks as the EU's poorest region in terms of gross domestic product (GDP) per capita, expressed in purchasing power standards, with only 26% of the EU's average, Eurostat said.
The last nine places in the rankings were all for regions in Bulgaria and Romania, where GDP per capita did not exceed 45% of EU's average, data published by Eurostat on Thursday showed.
Inner London region topped the rankings with GDP per capita at 328% of EU's average. Luxembourg's Grand Duchy and Brussels in Belgium followed with 266% and 223%, respectively. Greece ranked in the middle of the table with seven regions among the 68 EU's regions below the 75% level.
