No challenge will remain unanswered, Varvitsiotis says

Alternate Foreign Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, in an interview to the radio station "Thema FM" on Monday, sent a message to Turkey that no challenge in the field will remain unanswered or not be made known internationally.

Varvitsiotis pointed out that Turkey cannot impose on Greece the type and style of foreign policy it will pursue. He also suggested that the neighbouring country sees that the policy it has recently pursued is leading to a strategic impasse, noting that the "charm operation" it has lately directed at the EU does not seem to have brought the desired results for Ankara.

"This positive agenda does not seem to be turning into something tangible, so it continues the pace of tension," Varvitsiotis underlined.

Regarding the issue of sanctions at the March European Council, Varvitsiotis stressed that these are still on the table, as is the issue of Turkey's violations of the European acquis, which does not only concern its relationship with Greece but that with the EU as a whole.
