Nikolina Angelkova: Creation of Joint Tourist Product of Balkans, Danube Region Countries Is Future of Sector Development

Minister of Tourism Nikolina Angelkova and European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Cretu are expected to open today a conference titled Sustainability of Tourism and Security Development in the Danube Region. Minister Angelkova will inform us about the topics to be discussed at the event and the possibilities for the development of the tourist product in the Danube region, the possibilities for developing the “Danube” brand, and how the Danube region municipalities in Bulgaria and in the countries in the Danube region can cooperate. We know the Bulgarian town of Ruse has been the centre of the Technical Secretariat under the EU Strategy for the Danube Region since March.
Nikolina Angelkova: That is right. The EU Strategy for the Danube Region is extremely important so that we jointly promote and popularise the Danube region, especially as regards the opportunities for tourism. Therefore; I would like to thank Commissioner Cretu for accepting our invitation to jointly open and take part in the Sustainability of Tourism and Security Development in the Danube Region conference so that we can jointly discuss the possibilities with all 14 countries of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region and continue developing the “Danube” brand. You also know Bulgaria and Romania are co-coordinators under Priority Axis 3 of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region and this is also highly important for us to show we succeed together in outlining the future as regards the development of the Danube region as a joint tourist destination. In fact, concrete possible projects and the measures all EU Strategy for the Danube Region countries take to promote the “Danube” brand to the greatest extent and make the Danube region more attractive for visits, living, and investments as things are inter-connected will be discussed at the conference.
