New Cabinet Ministers Take Oath

New Cabinet Ministers Take Oath

Cyprus's new ministers of defence, education, communications and health took oath following a cabinet reshuffle prompted by the withdrawal of a junior partner from the ruling centre-right coalition, Reuters reported.

Three of the new ministers are members of the Democratic Party, which exited the ruling coalition last month in protest at the government's plans to re-start peace talks with Turkish Cypriots.

The former communications minister took over the defence ministry.

Energy minister George Lakkotrypis, responsible for overseeing development of Cyprus's offshore hydrocarbons discoveries, kept his position.
