Bulgarian Minister of Agriculture Miroslav Naydenov met in Brussels with the EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Dacian Ciolos. Romanian Agriculture Minister Valeriu Tabara joined the talks as well.
The sides discussed bringing subsidies for Bulgarian and Romania on par with subsidies paid to older EU member states – if possible, after 1 January 2014.
Bulgaria and Romania’s demand for revising the cancellation of payments frozen under certain projects of SAPARD pre-accession program was also among discussed issues, as well as Bulgaria and Romania’s progress in direct payments.
The agriculture ministers of the two countries protested sanctions imposed on their countries in 2007 and 2008 that could, according to them, bring to further financial restrictions in the future. /Source: BNR/
