A series of initiatives, aimed at resolving the major issue of the long delays observed at the border crossing of Promachonas, within the frames of the road connection between Greece and Bulgaria, were discussed at a meeting held yesterday at the border station of Promachonas. On behalf of the Hellenic Business Council in Bulgaria, the General Secretary of the Council, Mrs. Kleoniki Georgiadou attended the meeting. Present at the meeting, in addition to Minister Kostas Karamanlis, was also the Deputy Regional Governor of Serres, Mr. Panagiotis Spyropoulos.
The General Secretary of HBCB presented the parameters of the problem facing, related to the long delays observed in Promachonas and asked on behalf of the Greek business community of Bulgaria initiatives to be taken for the decongestion of the customs station and the faster passage of vehicles.
As part of the efforts to solve the problem, on the initiative of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Kostas Karamanlis and in cooperation with the Region of Central Macedonia and especially the Deputy Regional Governor of Serres, Mr. Panagiotis Spyropoulos, had begun and were completed in a very short period of time, the construction of bases and ready-made fully operational new houses. Also, the reaction of Police Administration was immediate, since it will support the new stations with additional forces, covering operational staffing needs.
As Mr. Karamanlis emphasized: "The three new entry border lines will significantly contribute to the facilitation of travelers, who wish to visit our country by car, in combination with the new measures taken by the Government for the process of health control of incoming tourists in our country, such as the recognition of rapid tests on travelers from abroad with a negative result and the increase of the age limit for tests on children". The Minister clarified that "following the recommendations of the European Union, the checks of the necessary certificates upon entering the country will now be performed on children aged 12 and above, instead of 6 years, as was the case until now." In fact, he commented that currently travelers to Greece have the opportunity to display the Digital Certificate COVID-19 of the European Union in digital or printed form.
