Lufthansa Group expects that passenger traffic on its Bulgarian destinations will increase by 16% in 2014, the company's country manager for Bulgaria, Albania, Macedonia and Kosovo said on Wednesday.
"The data from the first five months of 2014 show that we have increased the passenger traffic in Bulgaria by 16% and we intend to keep this figure by the end of the year," Alexander Tolweth said in a response to a SeeNews question during the news conference in Sofia.
Last year the group serviced 700,000 passengers on its Bulgarian destinations, earning a market share in the country of 30%.
Lufthansa serves routes to its hubs in Frankfurt, Munich and Vienna from Sofia with five daily flights.
Austrian Airlines, a subsidiary of Lufthansa Group, connects Sofia and the coastal town of Varna to the group's network via its hub in Vienna.
The company increased its seat capacity on Bulgarian routes by 24% during the winter 2013/2014 period, compared to the same period last year. It services over 70 flights per week from Bulgaria.
