Kikilias: Greece can now see light at the end of the tunnel

Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias on Wednesday said that Greece "was also seeing light at the end of the tunnel" with respect to the pandemic, while addressing the 74th World Health Assembly of the World Health Organisation (WHO).

"COVID-19 continues to spread in many countries and among our fellow human beings but it is true that we are starting to see light at the end of the tunnel, especially now that the vaccines are going to be widely distributed. In my country we have exceeded 5 million vaccinations," the minister said.

Kikilias expressed his gratitude to the WHO for the important work it has undertaken for the protection of the member-states and and especially to the regional director for Europe, Dr Hans Kluge.

"I have the pleasure of informing you that two months ago the Greek government, in cooperation with the regional WHO office in Europe and in close collaboration with the regional director Dr. Kluge, founded the first Office for Quality of Care and Patient Safety in Europe, with its headquarters in Athens. This is a huge honour and success for our country and also a huge responsibility which we must serve, not only for the Greek people but also for the people of the entire European region with regard to the quality of care and patient safety," concluded Kikilias.
