A regional innovation hub may be created in Sofia on the initiative of leading European universities. Economy Minister Bozidar Lukarski met with representatives of universities in Europe and members of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).
They are in Bulgaria here to explore the possibilities Sofia to become a regional innovation center within the European network of the EIT.
The delegation has representatives of Imperial College London, UK, the University of Trento, Italy, the Technical University in Delft, the Netherlands, the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden and the Technical University - Karlsruhe, Germany.
The EIT initiative focuses on creating innovation centers (Knowledge and Innovation Communities - KICs), working on several challenges - digital transformation, energy efficiency, climate change, life sciences and sustainable use of raw materials.
There are already five such centers which are concentrated in Western and Northern Europe.
