On December 15th, 2015 took place the HBCB Business Luncheon in honour of the Presidents of Bulgaria and Greece, H.E. Mr. Rosen Plevneliev and H.E.Mr. Prokopis Pavlopoulos.
It should be noted the fact that in the first state visit of President Pavlopoulos, the Hellenic Business Council managed to organize a business meeting, which was attended by more than 150 business representatives, political figures, foreign trade and industrial chambers. The meeting was carried out under the auspices of the Embassy of Greece to Bulgaria.
The two presidents opened the meeting, organized by the Hellenic Business Council in Bulgaria, which celebrates 10 years since its foundation.
We want the Greek business to succeed and win in Bulgaria and the Greek investments to increase, as the Bulgarian people and state benefit from this as well. President Rosen Plevneliev stated this, emphasizing that the Greek investments are an inevitable factor in the Bulgarian economy. A large number of Greek companies create over 40,000 jobs and the Greek business is a leader in various strategic sectors of the Bulgarian economy, including banking, engineering, trade and food production, textile industry, real estate and many others.

In front of the business representatives, the head of state highlighted Bulgaria and Greece as engines of the European integration of the Western Balkans. “The integration opens up new horizons in a region of 12 countries with a population of 150 million people. This is a dynamic market and we will make every effort, so that the development of the region continues in line with the European values, the principles of good neighborliness and the principle that the history should be respected and not manipulated, said the President Rosen Plevneliev.

The head of state assured that the Bulgarian state is a partner of the Greek business, while encouraging the Bulgarian companies to be more active and ambitious in realizing their business activities in the region. “Together we are stronger and we can work in third markets”, said the Bulgarian President.

On his behalf, the Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos highlighted the business environment in Bulgaria as a better one than that of our southern neighbor and welcomed the interest of Greek companies, which are operating in the Bulgarian market. “The economic and political relations are very good, but they can be even better. We are on the right path and we have already shown what it means to develop trade and economic relations through the signing of the final investment decision on the construction of an inter-connector gas pipeline between the two countries”, stated the Greek President, who also emphasized the importance of the project for the energy independence of the region.

President Pavlopoulos announced the readiness of the Greek state to work on additional projects for bilateral cooperation, including in the framework of the Cooperation Process in Southeastern Europe, which is currently under the chairmanship of Bulgaria. “We want our neighbors to develop on their European path, to become aware of their European perspective and to work for the fulfillment of all the criteria, which was drafted by Greece and Bulgaria before their EU membership”, said the Greek President.
