"Boosting employment and especially the employment of young people, reducing the burdens on labour and improving the real income of employees are central priorities for the government and the labour ministry," Labour and Social Affairs Minister Kostis Hatzidakis said in a press conference on Thursday.
He outlined the details of the measures that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) and stressed that they would not be the only ones.
"In the coming months other measures will follow, whether they concern the Recovery Fund, the new NSRF and the programmes for working people and the unemployed that will unfold from there. Especially for young people, whether they concern overall social policy measures that will come and actively support employment, workers and the unemployed," he said.
He said that measures taken during the pandemic to support employment had helped preserve jobs, with the unemployment rate falling to the lowest level since 2010, while with the emerging economic recovery, measures will be taken to preserve existing jobs and to create new ones.
