Deputy Minister for Civil Protection & Crisis Management Nikos Hardalias met with German Deputy Minister for Economic Cooperation & Development Norbert Barthle, at the Greek Civil Protection headquarters in Athens on Thursday.
Hardalias' meeting with Barthle, who is also the German Chancellor's appointee to the Greek-German Representative Assembly (DGV), was attended by German Ambassador to Greece Ernst Reichel.
The minister expressed his sincere condolences for the recent fatal floods in Germany on behalf of Greece's General Secretariat for Civil Protection. He also emphasized that Greece always stands ready to help through the European Civil Protection Mechanism-RescEU.
DGV's potential role in deepening cooperation in the field of civil protection was also emphasized, noted the secretariat in its announcement.
DGV is an important network of synergies between local governments in Greece and Germany, and has achieved tangible results in critical local and regional issues, it underlined.
Barthle stressed the need for continued cooperation at transnational and local level against the effects of climate change, and commended Greece on what he called its exemplary magement of the coronavirus pandemic.
