H.E. Mr. Theodoros Karaoglou, Deputy Minister of Interior on Macedonia and Thrace at a press conference in Sofia

On 13th of February, 2020 the Inter-Expo Center Sofia hosted a press conference by H.E. Deputy Minister of the Interior on Macedonia and Thrace Mr. Theodoros Karaoglu.

Many HBCB members and representatives jointed the event and listened to the Deputy Minister’s speech.

Mr. Karaoglou thanked Bulgarian citizens who regularly choose Greece as their holiday destination. According to statistics, Greece is a major tourist destination for Bulgarians with 1, 5 million Bulgarian citizens visiting in 2019.

The Deputy Minister focused on Greek initiatives to develop pilgrimage tourism and noted that nowadays religious tourism is a modern economic and social phenomenon with many dimensions: "By breaking the stereotypes of the past, we encourage tourists to discover other aspects of my homeland that are similar in beauty to other marvelous well known destinations. In northern Greece, pilgrimage tourism is common, as Macedonia and Thrace are often visited by people, guided by their religious beliefs, as well as by their desire to learn about religious traditions”, said Mr. Karaoglou.

After the press conference the Deputy Minister opened the Greek stall at the Holiday & SPA Expo Sofia.

In honor of Minister Karaoglou Hellenic Business Council in Bulgaria invited him to an informal dinner to discuss prospective questions and potential comments on the subject.
