Greek public debt totaled 329.296 billion euros at the end of the first quarter of 2020, from 337.415 billion in the same period last year, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Wednesday.
The statistics service, in a report, said that general government revenue was 17.252 billion euros in the first quarter the year from 17.638 billion in 2019, income and property taxes totaled 5.901 billion (or 17.3 pct of total revenue) from 6.643 billion in 2019 (15.6 pct of total revenue). Social insurance contributions totaled 6.596 billion euros in the January-March period (38.2 pct of total revenue) from 6.595 billion euros (37.4 pct) in the corresponding period in 2019.
General government spending amounted to 19.848 billion euros in the first three months of 2020, from 19.345 billion in 2019. Primary spending totaled 18.604 billion euros (93.7 pct of total spending) from 17.973 billion (92.9 pct of total spending) in 2019. Payroll spending totaled 5.392 billion euros (27.2 pct of total spending) from 5.267 billion (27.2 pct) in 2019. Social benefits amounted to 9.359 billion euros (47.2 pct of total spending) from 9.154 billion (47.3 pct) in 2019.
