President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos paid a visit on Monday to Huawei's Executive Briefing Centre in Beijing, as part of an official five-day visit to the Asian country.
Pavlopoulos met with Philip Jiang, Senior Vice President of Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., in the presence of company staff and was briefed on Huawei's current technology developments and its global reach vision. The company has been a strategic partner of Greece for over 15 years and provides secure and stable high-speed networks in the Greek market; it has expressed a strong interest in contributing to the country's digital economy.
Special mention was made of Huawei's Seeds for the Future programme, which helps talented university students train on cutting-edge technologies. Over 25 Greek university students have participated in the programme and another 10 will join it in November. At a teleconference at the Centre, Pavlopoulos and his delegation congratulated Greek students in the 2018 programme who shared experiences with him from trainings in Beijing and Shenzhen.
"Huawei remains steadfastly committed to investing in science and technology, and remains a pioneer in technological innovation," Philip Jiang said, adding that the leading role of the company in cutting-edge technology relates to its vision of providing services that make the world a better place. He noted that China could "serve as a significant strategic partner of Greece, offering value-added technology with significant benefits to to the country."
Huawei's CEO in Greece, Jacky Chen, added that Greece and China "maintain close ties through their rich cultural pasts, which have contributed to development and human prosperity." These ties can be further enhanced, he added, through a mutually beneficial collaboration in technology, entrepreneurship and culture, putting to use the competitive advantages of both countries.
Pavlopoulos' visit to the company facilities was wrapped up with a dinner in his honour.
Earlier in the day, Pavlopoulos, who also visited China in 2008 as interior minister, met with Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Li Zhanshu.
