Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, on the sidelines of the two-day EU-African Union Summit that opened on Thursday.
According to government sources, the two leaders spoke of boosting collaboration in the energy sector, and focused on the project that will link solar-produced electricity from Egypt to Greece through a submarine cable, and its strategic importance.
They agreed that they will lead a teleconference on all sides related to the project within the next few days.
Mitsotakis is expected to raise the project at the EU-AU Summit as an example on green energy and electricity connections in the East Mediterranean. Government sources said that the premier will underline that the project could turn Greece into a bridge between Africa and Europe.
Mitsotakis is in Brussels to attend the informal summit of EU leaders on Ukraine, which concluded before the EU-AU Summit.
