President of the Hellenic Parliament Constantine Tassoulas on Wednesday praised Greece's good relations with China in a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Zhang Qiyue, and observed that "your country is enormous, and so are the relations that we have been developing in recent years in the fields of culture, economics, trade and other bilateral exchanges."
"Today I had the pleasure of meeting your country's justice leadership - the president of the Supreme Court of China and other supreme judges who are visiting our country and who had an interesting meeting with the 2nd Vice President of Parliament Haralambos Athanasiou, during which they exchanged views on the two countries' legal systems," Tassoulas said.
The envoy's visit, he said, provided an opportunity to exchange views on how to further enrich the two countries' already good relations.
Chinese Ambassador Zhang responded that her visit at the parliament premises "demonstrates the importance that you and Parliament attach to the relationship between our two important countries." She added that after one year in Greece she feels that "now we have an even closer relationship, as Greece is a very strong partner of China in Europe and we are also working very closely in the context of the 'One Belt-One Road' initiative." As she also noted, Greece is now also a full member of the 17+1 partnership between China and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, furthering bilateral relations.
Zhang asserted that there are also many opportunities for cooperation between China and Europe, and between China and the international community.
Finally, Zhang revealed that "many lawyers and judges in China have expressed their optimism about more dialogue and exchanges with their Greek counterparts," and expressed her pleasure at meet and discuss this with him. "Thank you very much for the support you have provided in this important relationship," she concluded.
The meeting was attended by the diplomatic adviser to parliament president, Ambassador Constantinos Economides.
