Greece, UK migration ministers discuss tackling irregular migration

Migration & Asylum Minister Notis Mitarachi met with UK Migration Minister Chris Philp at the Keranis building in Piraeus on Thursday.

The ministers discussed a collaboration on technical know-how on tackling irregular migration and on asylum services.

Greece is one of Britain's key allies in dealing with human trafficking networks that try to push migrants to UK borders via Greece and Calais, noted Philp.

The migration policy of both Greece and Britain aims at providing asylum according to the rules of International Law, which allows for legal migration, said Mitarachi. However, both countries are also dealing decisively with treaffickers and phenomena of exploitation of asylum procedures, he added.

Philp is currently in Athens to participate in the ongoing Delphi Economic Forum VI.
