Greece has completed the early repayment of the high-interest part of an outstanding International Monetary Fund loan, following a decision Monday by Finance Minister Christos Staikouras.
The Finance Ministry had requested the activation of the process on September 16, it said in a statement, adding that the move fulfills yet another campaign promise by the government of New Democracy.
It added that the repayment improves Greece's creditworthiness, reduces the cost of borrowing and the amount of future installments. It also improves the public debt's liability and further enhances international markets's confidence in Greece.
