A big government reshuffle was announced in Greece, changing the heads in many major ministries.
The Finance Minister is decided to be Professor Gikas Hardouvelis, despite the extensive rumors about a multitude of potential candidates for this key government position. According to some unverified Press reports, former Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras may become next Bank of Greece Governor.
The leader of the junior government coalition partner PASOK, Evangelos Venizelos, retains his role as Government Vice-President and Foreign Minister.
Dimitris Avramopoulos (Defence Minister), Miltiadis Varvitsiotis (Shipping & Aegean Minister) and Olga Kefalogianni (Tourism Minister) are some of the ministers who will retain their portfolios.
On the other hand, the former Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis, the former Education and Religious Affairs Minister Constantinos Arvanitopoulos, the former Interior Minister Yiannis Michelakis, the former Development & Competitiveness Minister Costis Hatzidakis, the former Culture and Sports Minister Panos Panayiotopoulos, are some of the prominent members of the government who lose their portfolios, along with the former Rural Development and Food Minister Athanassios Tsaftaris and former Government Spokesman and Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister Simos Kedikoglou.
