The government's decision to shut down the lignite units of power production "deprived power supply in Greece (filling Greece with wind farms that are inadequate, especially when there's no wind," Greek Solution party leader Kyriakos Velopoulos said on Monday.
He was responding to statements by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who paid a visit earlier to the National Energy Control Centre in Kryoneri (Attica Region) over power supply issues during the heatwave. The premier had asked consumers to cut down on electricity use during peak times.
Velopoulos said that this forced Greece to import electricity from Albania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, and Turkey and charged consumers more.
