Government Expects 3% Growth in Winter Tourism

Deputy Economy, Energy and Tourism Minister Ivo Marinov on Tuesday predicted 3 per cent growth in tourism in the winter, year on year. He was speaking at a presentation of a project of his Ministry to promote Bulgaria as a tourist destination.

The growth will be generated mostly by the Russian market, where charter flight bookings have increased by between 25 and 30 per cent. The flow of Russian tourists to Bulgaria already increased in the first nine months of this year by 32 per cent to 354,000 year on year. The trend is expected to last, Marinov said.A series of EU-financed tourist projects of the Ministry are expected to push up the number of tourists and to improve the geographic distribution of the tourist flow in the country. The 36-month tourism promotion project is worth 7,897,000 leva. It is aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of national marketing activities for advertising and promoting the national tourist product on the domestic and international markets.
