Former EU Commissioner Kuneva Sets Up Party by End-Sept

Former EU Commissioner Meglena Kuneva said she will set up Bulgaria for the Citizens party by the end of September, as the association by the same name which she chairs will also continue to function.

Kuneva said the new party will adhere to the principles of democracy and freedom in every single sphere, from media and economics to ownership and ways of thinking, state-run Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) said on Wednesday.

"We expect and we want to be the top political force. We will do everything possible to achieve the best ranking even in the parliamentary elections next year, but this is a long-term political project [...]," BTA cited Kuneva as saying.

A survey conducted by polling agency Mediana earlier this month showed that Bulgaria for the Citizens would gain 5.5% of the votes if elections were held today.
