The number of foreign tourists who visited Bulgaria in April soared to some 282,500 from 81,200 in the same month of 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, official statistics showed on Friday.
Citizens of EU member states made up 37.7% of all arrivals of international visitors in the fourth month of 2021, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said in a monthly report on tourist numbers.
The arrivals of citizens from Romania increased the most among EU member states in the month under review - by 47.3% compared to April 2020. Arrivals from Turkey formed 57.6% of all visits of tourists from countries of the 'other European countries' group, NSI also said.
The number of people who visited friends or relatives in Bulgaria or just transited the country represented 68.7% of all arrivals of foreign nationals in April. Business trips and vacation trips accounted for 19.8% and 11.5% of all international visitors' arrivals, respectively.
