The number of foreign tourists who visited Bulgaria in June jumped to some 742,800 from 380,700 in the same month of last year, official statistics showed on Tuesday.
Citizens of EU member states made up 49.2% of all arrivals of international visitors in June, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said in a monthly report on tourist numbers.
The arrivals of citizens from Romania increased the most among EU member states in the month under review - by 46.7% compared to June 2020. Arrivals from Turkey formed 40.5% of all visits of tourists from European countries outside of the EU, NSI also said.
The number of people who visited friends or relatives in Bulgaria or just transited the country represented 57.3% of all arrivals of foreign nationals in June. Vacation trips and business trips accounted for 29.8% and 12.9% of all international visitors' arrivals, respectively.
